Attendance Policy
ATTENDANCE PROCEDURES
It is important that all students attend school on a daily basis. Good attendance is an important aspect of academic success. Absences, early dismissals, and tardies will only be excused for the following reasons: Death or serious illness in the immediate family, subpoenaed court appearance, medical condition or appointment verified by a physician or dentist, or serious personal illness or exclusion from school for medical reasons. Additional attendance information can be found in the Campbell County Schools’ Policy Manual: Please refer to File: JED-R for clarification on Regulations on Student Absences/Excuses.
For each absence, the student must deliver a note to the main office, or the parent may submit electronic communication stating the reason for the student’s absence. Notes must be signed by a parent or guardian and must be submitted no later than the second day after the student returns to school. Written communication in the form of a handwritten note or electronic email is required even if a parent or guardian has called the school. For electronic communication, please email Tracy Moran.
Make-up work will be the responsibility of the student and will be available in the school’s learning management system. Students are encouraged to work on their assignments in the learning management system while they are out. Students should communicate with their teachers regarding assignments.
Students will receive a failing grade (64, or the student’s average, whichever is lower) for the nine-week grading period for any student who has accumulated nine (9) or more unexcused absences during that grading period. This will include students who miss nine (9) or more class meetings unexcused for the same course in a nine-week grading period. The reason for the failing grade also will be communicated on the report card.
Once a student has been absent 10 cumulative days, further absences may require a doctor’s note or court subpoena in order to be excused.
PRE-ARRANGED ABSENCES:
Requests for pre-arranged absences must be submitted in writing to the principal at least two days prior to the first day absent. A student’s attendance record will be the primary consideration in determining whether or not a pre-arranged absence will be excused or unexcused. Please have your student complete their work in Canvas while they are away.
TARDY TO SCHOOL:
Students who are not present in 1st period by 8:00 AM will be tardy and must obtain a late slip from the office to enter class. Students with excessive tardies will be subject to loss of privileges and/or after-school detention.
EARLY DISMISSAL:
Students will only be released during the school day to people authorized by their parents or guardian. Time missed will only be excused for the reasons stated above. Students must be present TWO (2) BLOCKS or (4) periods in order to be eligible to participate in extracurricular activities. This includes school dances.
